Nintendo Play Station was a cartridge- and CD-based home video game console, which Nintendo wanted to develop together with Sony. But when Nintendo and Philips announced during the June 1991 Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago that they would make a CD-based console, Sony soon gave up the project.

By 1993, Sony had started production of their own console, competing against Nintnedo.[1]
